I think homeschooling is a great idea, but my daughter is extreemly social and would benefit from a couple days a week with other kids in classroom setting or otherwise. Have not found much in my web searching that seems to fit the bill for the Lanisng Mich. area. Anyone know of anything?
Also, concerned that she be able to engage in discussions and sharing of ideas with other students and with students with ideas different from hers. |

| Have you checked out the support groups listed for the Lansing area? They have a lot of group activities that might meet your need. The groups that we have listed are primarily Christian, but if this is not what you need, please ask the leaders if they have any other contact names. There are many families that home school in the Lansing area. Lois |

I believe the best socialization is from adults - a mature example rather than peer example. Maybe she could volunteer with you somewhere.
Have you thought of 4-H. We participate as a family and love it. Our main focus is animals and with you living in "MSU Land" what a great resource. They have workshops available and maybe you could even get in to see the glass sided cow and all her stomachs! They have any craft you can think of from beading to rocketry and painting to public speaking.
Don't put too much emphasis on socialization. They get their best information (and friendship) from you! |

I agree that the best socialization your child will receieve is from you and your husband. Outside of that, have you checked into any homeschool band or homeschool sports groups? These are available in the Lansing area, and are a wonderful chance for kids to get together! |

My children and I attend Friday Enrichment classes in Owosso and have found them to be a wonderful addition to our homeschooling week! They offer four hours of classes every Friday during their term, in a wide range of classes... from needlework and karate to guitar lessons and archery! If you would like more information, please let me know. I'd be happy to tell you more!
Sincerely,
Jessica |

| I have an only child that I am considering home schooling. She will be going into 7th grade but is behind grade level. I am afraid she will be too lonely and miss her friends if I pull her out of school. She sometimes doesn't seem to fit in with the other kids already and I don't want to make it worse. If there is anyone else out there who home schools an only child, I would like to know how well it worked out. |

Hi,
For those who live in the Wayne/Westland area. There is a great program at Nankin Mills for Home Schoolers. The cost is only $4. (per child, I think)
per class. 1:30 pm - 3:30 They are now having 3 to 4 each month, 1 a week. They range from history, science, etc. In the 2 hours there are crafts, learning, hiking etc.
My son and I have been going there for 3 years and they are wonderful. Also the building is a 3 story museum. Reptiles(live) 1st, Mr. Ford's live 2nd and Amiercan Indians 3rd. VERY COOL PLACE
You can find more info on the Wayne County web site.[/img] |

On the west side of Lansing, there is Teenworks. This is like a one-day a week school for kids & teens. they have seperate days for seperate ages, and you can take as many of the classes as you want - and I understand they offer tutoring, and other activities as well. The YMCA also offers homeschool classes in Lansing, that change every semester. My teen daughter enjoys some of these, and they are well-attended it seems. then there is CHESS , christian homeschool group. They have a Co-op school day at South Church , and other locations around lansing; as well as LOTS of activities and things to get involved in w/ all different ages. There are also several sports organizations for kids/ teens in the area . You just need to start searching the internet _________________ chintz |
