I haven't been to the conv. in a couple years. Do we still register for the leadership meeting? Is there still a meal? Is there a cost? Don't we have to sign up for our preferred workshops? Things have changed a bit.
Thank you
We will be sending a special email invitation to all leaders in our data base and posting it in the "For Leaders" section of the website by mid-April. We would really like ALL leaders of support groups, co-ops, and other ministries to homeschoolers to join us on Thursday afternoon and evening, May 13... and YES we will need folks to register and send us a small registration fee to help cover the cost of dinner. Details and registration form coming soon... We are still trying to finalize the meal cost with the Lansing Center and will send out the info as soon as we can.
Schedule for the Leaders' Summit on Thursday looks like this:
1 - 4:00 pm - Leaders' Seminar with Jeff Myers, Israel Wayne, and Rachael Carman
5:00 - 6:30 pm - Leaders' Dinner with presentation by James Muffett of Citizens for Traditional Values
6:30- 7:30 pm - Meet n' Greet Dessert with Elected officials
7:30 - 9:00 - "Taste of Homeschooling" Seminar for new and prospective homeschoolers. Leaders needed to participate in a panel discussion, to answer questions, and give guided preview tours of the exhibit hall

Understanding that you cannot possibly know exactly what the speakers are going to say, I'm wondering if you have an agenda for the leaders meeting from 1-4 on Thursday. I'm trying to decide if I need to take the extra day to come for that. I've never been before, thus my questions. What about the presentation during dinner? What is the cost expected to be? Are leaders going to be "required" to do the tours and panel discussion on Thursday night?
I don't mean to sound difficult, but the extra day requires extra expense and time on my part, and I need to get an idea. If it is just a "pep rally", I may not attend. If there is information about being in leadership, how to work with others, etc., I may be more inclined to attend.
I DO hope you'll decide it's worth your time and effort to come! I am REALLY excited about the agenda we have planned... our 3 keynotes are all absolutely marvelous and inspiring communicators, each with a special message on leadership:
Jeff Myers will be speaking on HOW TO SURVIVE AS A LEADER AND PREPARE FUTURE LEADERS (or SHUT UP AND START HAVING INFLUENCE): “Hi, I’m Jeff Myers and I’m addicted to advice-giving. I know that my ‘telling’ style of leadership turns people into ‘go-fers.’ I know that it increases my stress because I’ve positioned myself as ‘The-One-With-All-The-Answers.’ I want the people on my team to be leaders but I can’t stop treating them like followers, even though it hurts all of us.” Is there any help for leaders like Jeff, or anyone else you know? For the last five years Jeff has been discovering how to break the advice-giving addiction through the principles of executive coaching. These principles have lowered Jeff’s stress, increased his leadership effectiveness and strengthened his team. Come hear Jeff’s testimony at the inaugural meeting of AA— “Advice-givers Anonymous”!
Rachael Carman will be speaking on FAITHFUL LEADERSHIP:
Leaders need to be challenged and inspired to stay the course. In this motivational session Rachael vividly describes how faithful leaders lead, love, listen, learn, and laugh. The listener will leave with a whole new sense of purpose and passion as a homeschool leader.
Israel Wayne (who also addressed the leaders at our summit last year and was very well received and highly requested to return again this year) will address WHERE HAVE WE BEEN & WHERE ARE WE GOING? -- a message that will include the aspects of homeschooling being a move of God to bring revival to the church and our nation and the need for it to be 'home discipleship' not just 'home education.'
Each will speak for about 40 minutes, followed by Q & A time and a short break. Following the three speakers, there will be about an hour break or so for fellowshipping with other leaders, visiting the used curriculum sale going on, checking into hotel rooms, changing for dinner, etc.
Over dinner, James Muffett will be updating us on the current state of our educational freedoms here in Michigan, and addressing some issues on a national level, as well. He will talk about building relationships with our elected officials, how to gain their respect and their ear, and why the Nov. elections this year here in Michigan are so critically important. Then many of our legislators and some other elected officials will be joining us for dessert and an opportunity to "build bridges" between the homeschool community and our governmental representatives.
Cost should only be about $10/leader. And certainly no one will be required to participate in the offerings for new & prospective homeschoolers... we're just hoping to get some leaders to volunteer to help us during that time.
We would love to have leaders from homeschool groups of all kinds join us-- but we would like to know at least the name of your group. Can you email a bit more information to me at kim@inch.org?
Thanks!
